I have often wondered why Swix does not provide guidance for snow temperature when selecting the correct wax. Most other brands provide snow temp, or, both snow and air temp. waxing guidance. However, Swix promotes air temperature on product packing as well as basic charts.
Snow temperature does not fluctuate as much as air temperature due to the thermal mass of the snow pack. In addition, it is the snow that is in contact with the wax, not “air”. Thus, knowing the snow temperature is kind of important.
After much searching I came across a chart by SWIX that provides detailed information for selecting the best SWIX product in consideration of specific snow type, humidity, air temp, or, snow temp!! If you are a SWIX tuner… like I said, the BEST WAX CHART EVER!!!
